When WCW did the WorldWide show, they used to have a monitor to tell the audience who to cheer and who to boo. One one occasion when Rick Rude and the Equalizer (the "heels") the audience accidentally cheered for them and WCW had to reshoot their entrance over again.

Mike Shannon's Raw Review (Nov. 9, 2009)
Written by Mike Shannon on 11/10/09

WWE RAW (November 9, 2009)

-So a Pittsburgh Steelers Monday night game took precedent over a wrestling show that has only entertained me a handful of times in the past few months. HOWEVER, before we begin...

Damn, it's nice to be a Pittsburgh sports fan right now

-TAPED! from Sheffield, England (home of terrible teeth and worse food) so expect some crowd heat being pumped in.

-YOUR host, Ricky Hatton (last seen getting his f'n head knocked off by Manny Pacquiao) hits the ring and shows off one of his knockouts. Boxing is so dead it's not even funny...MMA has got the coveted audience (males 18-35) and has the larger-than-life personalities.

-Jerishow interrupts and Show offers Hatton a free shot before he kills him. Ricky winds up but Jericho stops him just before contact so Show isn't embarrassed again. This causes a rift as to who is going to win the world title at Survivor Series...BUT HOW WILL JERISHOW EVER SURVIVE?!? Hatton makes Jerishow vs. DX for tonight causing Y2J to mock the queen. Hatton asks him to speak English and Jerishow surround him before DX makes the save with their entrance. Hunter runs down the heels and HBK attacks, sending Jericho to the floor and Big Show to fight another day.

These opening segments just kill me

Kelly Kelly (w/Gail Kim) vs. Alicia Fox (w/Jillian Hall)
Kelly Kelly is FAR too hot for these Queen followers (the old lady, not the band). Alicia drags Kelly into the corner and puts the boots to her, getting a one count as Melina looks on. Alicia hits a clothesline and works a chinlock before Kelly comes back with her usual spots that never look any better even though she does them in EVERY SINGLE MATCH. Rocker Dropper gets two for Kelly but Alicia comes back with what was supposed to be a stungun and then hits an axe kick that was supposed to hit the neck but basically hit 6 inches above her ass.
Winner: Alicia

-They trot this shit out every single week and every single week it blows ass. 1/2* Kelly busted out the pushup bra tonight though...so be thankful for small favors.

If they just showed this picture continuously on my TV for 5 minutes it would get higher ratings than that last match.

-Backstage, Ricky Hatton's son meets John Cena.

-Recap of Sheamus destroying Jamie Noble, who has "retired" because of the injuries. Once again, retired from what? Noble hasn't won a match since you got laid last...and that's a long, LONG time ago.

-Sheamus promises to do what the Irish always have...embarrass the English. CAN I GET AN AMEN FROM THE CONGREGATION????

Sheamus vs. Unnamed Englishman
I feel like I'm watching WWF Superstars back in 1990 right now. Sheamus destroys the little guy with power stuff before hitting his backbreaker and the pump kick. Sheamus then automatically jumps up about 20 pegs by busting out a RAZOR'S EDGE (yeah yeah, I know it's a crucifix bomb, don't email me) for the win.
Winner: Sheamus

-Well, Sheamus is the latest in the line of big guys (Snitsky, Mike Knox, Kane 10000 times, Mark Henry, etc.) to get a push as the "unstoppable monster" on Raw. I doubt it will work, but hey, whatever. *

-Lawler plugs Ricky Hatton's gymp in England. Oh COOL! It looks great! I think I'll go out and join tomorrow! Oh wait.......it's in f*** ING ENGLAND!

-Backstage, the Bella twins allow Ricky to plug his clothing line until Santino Marella comes in as Ricky "Fatton". Get it? He's Ricky Hatton only fat....what social commentary. Chavo joins the party to challenge Santino. However, Ricky SWERVES him and books himself against Chavo in a Boxer vs. Wrestler match. Oh, yippie.

-Still backstage, the Miz reminds us that he is awesome before Jack Swagger interrupts to promise to put a hurt on Evan Bourne.

This show is REALLY boring so far....we need some motivation....

Do it.

Evan Bourne vs. Jack Swagger
Swagger dominates Bourne, as expected, running him from corner to corner and flapjacks him down. Running Vader Bomb hits before Swagger works the back and hammers away in the corner. Blind charge hits knees however and Bourne gets two. Surprise rollup gets another near fall for Bourne and the double knee drop gets another two. Swagger comes back with a boot to the face and a belly to belly while the Miz makes his way to ringside, distracting Swagger. Bourne counters a suplex into a spinning savate kick and hits Air Bourne for the win, ruining Swagger's undefeated promise.
Winner: Evan Bourne

-Best match of the night so far, but that's not saying much. ***

VIP Lounge
Mark Henry and MVP introduce Kofi Kingston into the VIP Lounge to discuss Survivor Series. Apparently, they want to be called the "World's Strongest Tag Team" which I do NOT think is going to catch on. They recap the match against Legacy last week and talk a little trash, which leads to Orton coming out to call them all criminals. Calling the only three black guys on roster criminals all at the same time? That's a dangerous road to walk there, Randy. Staredown takes us to commercial....

Mark Henry vs. Randy Orton
Henry briefly overpowers Orton before getting suckered into the corner and slugged. Kool Aid comes back with a clothesline for two but misses an elbow drop and takes the GARVIN STOMP~! How is it "vintage Randy Orton" when it's not even his move? Michael Cole is a __________ (fill in the blank with your own insult). Kneedrop gets two for Orton then finds about 6 different ways to stomp Henry. We hit the chinlock to REALLY amp up the excitement before Henry comes back with a powerslam for two. Henry hits a splash in the corner and goes to the headbutts, but Orton comes back with a sunset flip. Henry blocks it but Orton hits the RKO out of nowhere for the win.
Winner: Randy Orton

-Really boring. Henry and Orton have ZERO chemistry together. *1/2 Kofi gets put over again by Orton, sending him to the outside with a right hand. It's not much, but I guess it's something.

Boxer vs. Wrestler
Ricky Hatton vs. Chavo Guerrero
I'm sure this will follow in the grand tradition of Ali vs. Inoki and Johnny B. Badd vs. Arn Anderson. The boxer can only win by knock out while Guerrero has to pin Hatton. Ricky is announced as "slightly over 140 lbs." Did they not have a scale available or something? They cost like 8 bucks at Wal-Mart.

Chavo stalls FOREVER until he takes Hatton down and celebrates. Guerrero tries a go-behind, but Hatton floors him with a hook and that's it.
Winner: Ricky Hatton

-Holy shit, that sucked. -***

-Backstage, Cena hides the DX-clad f'n midget from Hunter and HBK to protect him from a lawsuit. The DX-Cena Comedy Hour dominates the segment and the midget still loves DX....OK then.

-Recap of the Raw's Got Talent shit from last week that causes people to be embarrassed to call themselves wrestling fans.

-YOUR host next week is Rowdy Roddy Piper....now THAT should be interesting. You know Piper is going to ham it up because they are in MSG.

Jerishow vs. DX
John Cena joins us for commentary, once again they send a wrestler out to save the world from Michael Cole announcing the main event. Jericho and HBK do a little sequence before HHH comes in and runs into a boot to give Jericho brief control. HHH comes back with a kneelift and a slingshot sends Jericho to the outside but WE GOTTA TAKE A BREAK!!!

AHHHHHHH!!! KILL IT! KILL IT!

When we come back, Jericho has control of HBK and tags in Show, who takes a dropkick to the knee for two. Big Slow comes back with a slam and is tired already so Y2J tags in and hammers away in the corner. The heels switch off again and Show dominates slowly, but HBK wiggles out and gets the hot tag to HHH, who stupidly tries the Pedigree too early and takes a spear.

Jericho wants a turn and he works over the midsection before hitting the sleeper resthold. HHH comeback goes nowhere as Jericho gets two off a knee to the gut and tags in Show. Another HHH comeback attempt is ended by a clothesline and Show hits a TERRIBLE splash for two. Thank God for quick camera cuts. Reverse bearhug gives Show another rest but he tags in Jericho anyways because he's lazy.

Y2J pounds away in the corner but runs into a desperation spinebuster for the double KO. John Cena is being far too serious on commentary. HBK gets the hot tag and he is a JESUS FREAK ON FIRE~! as he cleans house on Jericho and gets rid of Big Show before hitting the flying elbow on Y2J. And yes we are...TUNING UP THE BAND~!

Listening to all the tracks in one sitting will actually cause your balls to grow.

Chin Music is countered into a Walls of Jericho attempt but Show accidentally knocks out Jericho with a right hand and HBK gets the pin.
Winners: DX

-A very formulaic tag match with two separate heat segments, so it's decent enough for ***1/4.

-The main event is announced next week: DX vs. Jerishow vs. John Cena and the Undertaker. That should hook the rubes.

Final Word
Another lackluster effort leading into one of the biggest PPVs of the year. They continually throw out the same combination of guys in the main event and still no one cares. Basically, nothing happened to advance storylines and the matches weren't that great. Not good times, bad times.
