"I Think I Know Why He May Be Mentioning 'Demons' In His Name. I Think He's Tanked."
-- RD Reynolds on yours truly from the 10/2/09 episode of "Wrestlecrap Radio".
It's time for another "Product Review". When I started this over at my MySpace page it was a way to write on the ole blog about not only merchandise that I bought but also movies that I had recently seen. Now it has been transformed into something that when I find something that may be Pop Culture & Pro Wrestling related. Then I have to see it and review it for you all.
This time around. An oldie on the “Product Review” comes around one more time. With this particular item will make it nearly 10 plus years this company has released this. I’m referring to WWE’s latest version of CD filled with their theme music. Of course I’m referring to…
Product Review: "WWE The Music Volume 10: A New Day".
“WWE The Music Volume 10: A New Day” is WWE’s latest in their continuing series of CD music filled with popular themes of the year. All of these themes mostly came out last year but a couple came out recently.
Let's get down to the track listings & reviews.
1. “It’s A New Day” by Adelitas Way (Legacy’s Theme): Hrm…Odd. Last year the title of WWE’s Music CD “Voices” was taken from Randy Orton’s theme music and now “A New Day” is the name of the CD taken from Legacy’s theme. And to make it more peculiar this is Legacy’s 2nd theme song in two years since they had a theme on “Voices” as well. Only The Rock has gone through as much theme music as Legacy has. I wonder if this is some quiet push towards the Legacy stable and we are all going to experience a “Push From Hell” but even more so. Another time for me to figure out but right now music wise. It has a great beginning but other than that it is a pretty average song here.
2. “I Am Perfection” by Cage 9 (Dolph Ziggler’s Theme): I was hoping we would get his old theme because I liked that version. This music on the other hand. It started slow and I keep thinking that this SHOULD had been the theme designed for the late “Mr. Perfect” Curt Henning. As the song kept playing it kind of grew to me. From a bleh song to a pretty average song.
3. “I Came To Play” by Downstatit (The Miz’s Theme): The Miz gets an upgrade to his old theme which was previously been mentioned AND reviewed in “WWE The Music: Volume 7”. A typical WWE-ish theme music that makes the guy sound good but it grew to me and it’s a great song. Also it can serve as a double purpose as music that can be used in any sporting event as well.
4. “Just Close Your Eyes” by Story Of The Year (Christian’s Theme): When Christian returned to WWE from TNA his theme music, which was previously done by “Waterproof Blonde” on “Themeaddict: WWE The Music Volume 6” got re-done into a more of a rock contemporary version. Honestly it is an average song and in no way compares to the “Waterproof Blonde” version which is a far superior. I’m a big fan of that particular version. So if you like the song just go to ITunes and locate the song.
5. “Return Of The Hitman” (Bret “The Hitman” Hart’s Theme): Well lookey here! Well with this theme it is pretty obvious that WWE wanted Bret Hart back for awhile now or else this song wouldn’t be on here. WWE completely re-wrote and re-mastered Bret Hart’s old theme so the original writers of the song, “Mouth Of The South” Jimmy Hart”, isn’t going to get one dime out of this. This is basically the same as the old version only with more guitars. I wasn’t a big fan of the old version and I’m not a fan of the new one as well.
6. “Written In My Face” by Sean Jenness (Sheamus’ Theme): It’s hard to hear a theme when you experience it on TV because you have the commentary team or the fans creating a lot of backup noise so you can’t truly experience it. So when a theme is released this way it gives the song a great chance for fans to listen to it. When I first listened to Sheamus’ theme on the old IPod I swear I thought I was listening to a rock version of a “Flogging Molly” song. Which I liked (happen to have an autograph CD from them). This happens to be a good song. Somewhat surprising from WWE and how they make music.
7. “Insatiable” by Patsy Grime (Tiffany’s Theme): I guess after using Torrie Wilson’s old “A Girl Like That” theme she finally gets her own. Funny. Tiffany’s theme caused somewhat of a controversy like what Maryse’s theme did last year. For those that don’t remember quick version here of Maryse’s theme; when Maryse’s theme was translated from French to English it basically became a dirtier version of the song “Sugar Walls” by Sheena Easton. In Tiffany’s case it’s the used of the word “Insatiable”. Dictionary.com defines the word as “incapable of being satisfied”. Adding to the fact the whole song is about “the girl” not being happy with any man in her life. You make Tiffany look like she’s constantly horny! Or to put it more bluntly, a sex-crazed slut! Another FINE example of WWE trying to make their Divas look “PG” yet they are really “R” Or even “X” Rated. The song itself is REALLY bad. So bubble gum Pop it is sickening!
8. “Domination” by Evan Jones (Ezekiel Jackson’s Theme): You take the “Brawl For It All” theme from close to a decade ago, remixed it, add a rapper, and this is the best song on the entire CD! Definite download anywhere on the planet.
9. “Born To Win” by Mutiny Within (Evan Bourne’s Theme): With the WWE I figured the theme would be “Bourne To Win”. No joke. WWE dabbles with a Speed Metal theme with airplane effects and this song doesn’t work. It’s bad on all levels.
10. “Oh Puerto Rico” by Vinny & Ray with Marlyn Jimenez (Primo Colon’s Theme): That’s what WWE needs to get into again. Latin or Salsa Music! Like all the other attempts before. All bad! If you like it hey go ahead and listen to it. I don’t like this music and it is bad no matter what.
11. “Radio” by Watt White (Zack Ryder’s Theme): The theme starts out pretty strong. “Oh Radio, Tell Me Everything You Know.” But after that. Oh Hell! It sounds like they were trying to rip-off “Radio Ga Ga” by Queen but not trying to rip them off in a lyrical sense. It is an awkward song that ends up becoming really bad.
12. “New Foundation” by Jimi Bell (The Hart Dynasty’s Theme): Remember how Bret Hart got a remixed version of his old theme music? Well The Hart Dynasty got a remixed version of Bret Hart’s theme adding more guitars and rhythm to it. Better than Bret Hart’s old theme but not really. It’s a pretty average song.
13. “You Can Look – But You Can’t Touch” by Kim Sozzi (The Bella Twins’ Theme): And adding to the “PG Divas are really Porn Star Sluts” category again musically is The Bella Twins’ theme. Quite honestly this is a stripper theme. Hell! This IS a Stripper song! Very aggravating song to hear! Avoid at all costs. Probably has a STD somewhere just like The Bellas.
14. “Crank The Walls Down” by Maylene & The Sons Of Disaster (Chris Jericho & The Big Show a.k.a. “Jerishow” ‘s Theme): When WWE usually has two random people to form a tag team and they stay like that for awhile they generally mix and combine both WWE stars themes to make one song. Like how a DJ mixes music. I remember that Rob Van Dam & Rey Mysterio had it that way. Randy Orton & Edge definitely had it done when “Burn In My Light” & “Metallingus” where mixed. Usually its two songs combined to form one. In this case WWE got rock band “Maylene & The Sons Of Disaster” to sing both songs; the rock bluesy “Crank It Up” which is The Big Show’s Theme & the constantly redone pure kickass rock “Break The Walls Done” which is Chris Jericho’s theme, into one song. Okay I happen to be a fan of “Maylene & The Sons Of Disaster” since I was introduced to them through the “Vans Warped Tour”. But this is a pretty hard thing for any band to do. Granted when they performed both songs they captured what each of the songs are but when you listen to it. It is a pretty awkward and messed up thing that your head. I give them an “A” for effort though but the song itself is bad.
Overall: Only four songs are good on this CD; “I Came To Play”, “I Am Perfection”, “Written In My Face”, & “Domination”. So get those songs via individual download. Else as a whole this is a pretty average CD once again so in these tough times you can live without it if you have to.
Only one way to get this CD and that is going to Amazon.com to download it.
I would like to rant about this. On one CD you can only get it through ITunes, then it’s retail, now it’s only through Amazon. I have this weird and wacky idea. How about covering your bases by selling it on retail AND electronically for a change! Yeesh!
