Mike Shannon's Raw Review (Feb. 15, 2010)
Written by Mike Shannon on 02/15/10

WWE RAW (February 15, 2010)

-Happy President's Day to everyone, otherwise known "You Don't Have to Go To Work for No Reason Day".

-Before we continue it's time for the new internet phenomenon, the segment that has become a hits record breaker, the paragraphs that are sweeping the nation. That's right, it's time to...

ASK MIKE ANYTHING!!!

I'm the Crosby hater from a cpl of weeks ago, ok you win, Sid is definitely in the top 3 in the league, great job with the stats. For an American you know your shit, and I'm from Windsor, not Toronto, and as a Red Wing fan, I loved the Leaf bashing, but enough hockey, my question is, do you think we are heading down the path for a HBK vrs HHH match (again) at Wrestlemania? And now I'm hearing he's taking time off after Mania? What's the scoop on HBK?
-JJ from Windsor,Ont

A: Honestly, I really think we're going to get HBK-Undertaker and HHH-Sheamus for the title. It's been quite a while since Hunter says been in the main event title slot and he never stays out for long. Plus, they know everyone wants to see a rematch which will serve as a defacto main event. In my humble opinion, however, Sheamus vs. HHH will absolutely suck and will be at least third from the top.

By the way, I might hate the Wings in the finals but I can respect their players and their fans.

Q: So, my question is, Who do you consider to be THE greatest wrestler of all time??
-James

A: A simple and yet very difficult question. If you're asking me who the greatest all-around package, I have to say Ric Flair. Anyone who has the "Ultimate Ric Flair Collection" knows how great he was both in and out of the ring. A close second, in my mind, is Shawn Michaels who has been on top of his game for longer than ANYONE had predicted, especially after a career-ending back injury.

Who do you think will be the next WWE superstar to win their first world title next? Also if it were up too you who would want too see as the next first time world champion?
-John, Melbourne Australia

A: Another really good question and a tough one consider that there aren't any solid "stars on the rise" at the moment. However, I'm gonna guess that they roll the dice with Jack Swagger or Ted DiBiase eventually. I know neither of those names are very exciting, but the main event picture is very set at the moment.

However, if I had my way, I'd give the title to The Miz (yes, I'm serious) and allow him to cut his own promos on various talent. Book him against great wrestlers (HBK, HHH, Bourne, etc.) and make him look like a million bucks. His promo skills are money (as shown with his Cena feud) and he's competent enough to be carried by a superior worker. The roster isn't exactly brimming with guys ready to burst through though.

-Remember you can ASK MIKE ANYTHING!! two times a week if you email him at dlman91@hotmail.com or drop a message in a bottle into the Allegheny River at any point in time.

NOW ON WITH THE SHOW!!!!!

-LIVE from Des Moines, IA (home of corn and nothing else interesting)

-Some jailbait sings the National Anthem.

Sheamus vs. Randy Orton
The Orton subtle face push continues. Stalemate to start but Sheamus hammers away in the corner and hits a forearm. Randy fires back while the crowd chants for him but Sheamus floors him for two. Orton dodges the pump kick and tries the RKO but Sheamus takes a powder and WE GOTTA TAKE A BREAK!!!

Classic from the vault

We return with Orton working the GARVIN STOMP~! while Legacy make their way to ringside. Sheamus uses the distraction to hit a backbreaker and target the back with shots in the corner. Orton comes back with a standing dropkick and his own backbreaker. Sheamus dodges the RKO a second time and they tumble to the outside where Orton slams Sheamus into the ting post. Legacy tries to attack behind the ref's back but they get caught and Randy gets disqualified.
Winner by DQ: Sheamus

-Post-match, Legacy try to apologize again but it's an RKO for Cody. Sheamus destroys Ted so Orton has an RKO for him as well. Call the whole thing **3/4 for a typical TV match.

-Recap of the whole Cena-McMahon-Batista-Bret deal.

-Bret Hart hits the ring and talks about how much of a coward Vince McMahon is. It's a freaking shame that a legend like Bret has to fight against a f***ing "WHAT?" chant started by a bunch of morons. He laments the loss of a WrestleMania match with McMahon and says goodbye to the fans.

-Bret walks backstage and says goodbye to all the boys as Cena tries to get him to stay. As Bret is getting in his limo, some blonde girl backs into his door and Bret's leg gets caught in the door.

The Miz Show vs. Mark Henry & MVP
Both MVP and Henry are so floundering right now it's not even funny. MVP stomps away on Miz and hits a flapjack before booting Miz to the floor but THE TAPE MACHINES ARE RUNNING!!

When we come back Miz is working a front facelock but takes a backdrop and Henry gets the hot tag while King plugs the final ECW episode ever (thank God). World's Strongest Slam only gets two after Show breaks the count with a legdrop. Show tags in and Henry stupidly tries to slam him and gets DDT'ed for two. Big Show misses a Vader Bomb and MVP tags in to zero crowd reaction.

MVP hits a kick in the corner but Show floors him with a boot of his own. Miz tags in and tries a cover but MVP reverses the pinfall for his own and gets the win.
Winners: MVP & Mark Henry

-Personally, I feel it's useless to do anything with these two since they've already jobbed to almost everyone in the promotion but whatev **.

-Guest host Jerry Springer (who admitted he was drunk when he accepted this job) shows up an hour into the show as I debate whether to bother recapping this nonsense. His first guest is Kelly Kelly...

No complaints...

Kelly says her confession is she is pregnant (Crowd: BOOOOO) as this sinks to new lows as she admits not knowing who the father is. Santino Marella seems to believe it's him but Kelly is a skank so Michael Cole and Lawler reveal they also ran the train on Miss Kelly.

Santino gets an AWESOME line with "If Jerry is your dad, haven't you ever seen Grand Master Sexay? He'll be a screw-up!" Now apparently Brie Bella is a man as this threatens to be the WORST THING EVER ON TELEVISION. They bring out more jobbers with nothing else to do and I refuse to recap any more of this garbage. It ends with the f***ing midget being the baby's daddy because Vince McMahon hates me and wants to kill me with shitty television.

-Lawler reveals it all to be a joke ("The Great Khali thinks, like this crowd, that this is all a big waste of time!" AMEN). Mae Young returns and makes out with Springer as I contemplate shooting my television.

Kofi Kingston vs. Ted DiBiase
You expect me to be in the right frame of mind to critique actual wrestling after that trash? DiBiase hammers away in the corner but Kofi comes back with a back suplex and a standing dropkick. Kingston lays some kicks in and hits a single ax from the top rope. Clothesline sets up the Boom Drop but he crotches himself on the top rope and Ted hits Dream Street for the win.
Winner: Ted DiBiase

-Basically Ted got his ass kicked the entire match and hit one move. OK then **.

-Your newest induction into the Hall of Fame is...Antonio Inoki.

-Hard sell for the Elimination Chamber.

-John Cena hits the ring and calls out Batista, but of course he is not there and appears on the video wall to taunt his adversary. Big Dave promises to be on Raw next week and will answer all questions.

-These promos promising ECW being "extreme" one last time make me wish Paul Heymen went legitimately nuts and stormed Titan Tower with some mutants from Philly to demonstrate what extreme really is.

-Jewel and her ugly teeth will host next week with her hick husband.

John Cena vs. HHH
Cena works a headlock for a time but HHH fights out and whips Cena hard to the corner. Cena makes a comeback with suplex for two but HHH sees a bulldog coming and hits a kneedrop. A second one is blocked and Cena unsuccessfully tries the STF before sending Hunter to the floor. He tries LUCHA CENA to the outside but only hits the ringside barrier. HHH tries the Pedigree on the floor but Cena avoids it with a backdrop and BOTH MEN ARE OUT WE GOTTA TAKE A BREAK!!!

Best...video game bad guys...ever

We return with HHH holding a sleeper but Cena makes the comeback with his usual crap. Attitude Adjustment is countered for two and they fight to the top where Cena blocks a superplex and hits his legdrop for two. STF is countered to a single leg crab by HHH, something I've NEVER seen him use, but Cena reverses and grabs the STF but Hunter fights to the ropes. AA is avoided again and HHH hits the high knee/facebuster/spinebuster comeback. HHH looks to finish but Sheamus runs in and hits Hunter with the pump kick to get the whole thing thrown out.
Winner by DQ: HHH

-No finish knocks some points off and the commercial break hurt it. Still good enough for government work ***.

-Post-match, Sheamus destroys Cena and hits the Razor's Edge on Hunter.

Final Word
That Springer segment is ten minutes of my life I'll never get back. A very lackluster episode tonight as Raw seems content with coasting into the PPV and using WrestleMania as their selling point. It makes for some bad television at times, though. ONE PLUS THING: No women's wrestling.
