Mike Shannon's Raw Review (Feb 22, 2010) Written by Mike Shannon on 02/22/10
WWE RAW (February 22, 2010)
-So I was all pumped for ASK MIKE ANYTHING!! but all the questions really sucked this week. Come on, you guys are much more creative than that....or maybe you're not. The questions gotta be good to make the cut because I'm not wasting web space explaining why HBK is a better worker than Big Show....come on now.
-If YOU can break the cold streak and want to ASK MIKE ANYTHING send an email to dlman91@hotmail.com or just scream really loudly at your computer screen.
-So let's see if WWE can carry over momentum from a decent PPV last night. Praise for the show has been about where I expected it to be, although anyone who has been going on about it being a "perfect show" might have a screw loose.
-LIVE from Indianapolis, IN (a state so boring I have no joke for it)
-Chris Jericho, surprisingly, is out first to gloat about his win and proclaim his superiority but Edge quickly breaks up the party with a spear and announces he will face Jericho for the title at WrestleMania. No big shock there and should be a solid match to boot.
-The John Cena Whine Fest begins as he interrupts the show to demand a title rematch RIGHT NOW! Vince McMahon greets him and says he has to win tonight if he wants to go to WrestleMania and books him against Batista.
Divas Title Maryse vs. Gail Kim Gail quickly hits a clothesline for two and tries East Defeat, but she gets floored for two. Gail counters the DDT into a pinning bridge for a near fall but then splats like an idiot on a moonsault attempt that Maryse was out of position for. Brutal. Surprise small package gets two for Gail and she tries a victory roll but gets dropped on the top rope and gets hit with the DDT and that's all she wrote.
Winner and NEW Champion: Maryse
-Sloppy and disjointed. Seriously, Bryan Danielson is stuck on NXT while this garbage is on the flagship show? DUD
Not even this can make up for the brutalness
-Backstage, Jewel and her goofy-looking husband chat with the divas and Jillian sings because God knows Vince still thinks it's hilarious. Jewel smacks her in the face and everyone laughs and laughs...and laughs...
-Still backstage, Orton and Rhodes discuss their 6-man tonight with DiBiase and Randy wants to say he's sorry for abusing them. Orton leaves and Ted wants to know if Cody is still on board with their plan. Hmmmmm....
Kofi Kingston, Evan Bourne, & Yoshi Tatsu vs. Legacy Guess Yoshi is now on Raw. Yoshi works some armgdrags on Ted and brings in Bourne, who quickly falls victim to a suplex but kicks the hell out of Cody Rhodes when he tags in. Evan floors Rhodes but gets caught heading upstairs and takes an Alabama Slam and WE GOTTA TAKE A BREAK!!
Dear God...
We return with DiBiase hitting a clothesline on Bourne for two but Evan comes back with a double knee press and he gets the hot tag to Kofi, who is a FORMER JAMAICAN GUY OUTTA CONTROL~! An Orton cheapshot quickly ends Kofi's streak and Randy comes in with some scoop slams. Kingston fights out of a resthold but gets hit with Orton's backbreaker. Randy tags in Cody but then hits him with the Hangman's DDT and then adds an RKO to DiBiase on the floor. THERE'S what you've been waiting for ladies and germs. Yoshi floors Cody and Bourne comes in with Air Bourne to get the win.
Winners: Evan Bourne, Yoshi Tatsu, & Kofi Kingston
-Standard TV fare serving as a backdrop for the Legacy storyline. **1/4 Orton is clearly going to get the babyface reaction, so hopefully they are prepared for that.
-Recap of the whole HBK-Undertaker saga.
-Shawn Michaels hits the ring to try to explain his actions but Taker's gong interrupts him. Doesn't Kane look more like a wuss now that his "big brother" has LITERALLY walked through "hellfire and brimstone" live on PPV?
Undertaker joins us clad as late 1990s Ministry of Darkness Taker and lets Shawn know he has his attention. HBK says Taker ignored his rematch request and that's why he had to do what he did. Taker's got some weird yellow mustard-looking crap going on around his beard tonight. Undertaker accepts the match to surprisingly mild pop but says there is one condition...Shawn Michaels has to put up his WWE career. HBK says "no problem" because, without beating Taker, he has no career...
Money in the Bank Qualifier Christian vs. Carlito According to Justin Robert, MITB will still be at WrestleMania. Since Vince has the attention of a fruit fly, that could still change tomorrow. Heath Slater, Christian's NXT assignment, cuts a promo just because. Carliro's boy, Michael Tarver, answers back.
Carlito gets a quick two count and slugs away but gets caught with a flapjack and gets choked out on the ropes (until Christian slips, that is). Missile dropkick gets two for Christian but he splats on a high cross body attempt. Carlito gets a spinning neckbreaker for two but Christian sends him into the ring post and hits the Killswitch for the win.
Winner: Christian
-Standard TV stuff **. If MITB is truly on 'Mania, that's gonna be a LOADED card. Sign me up.
-Jewel and her rodeo clown husband introduce a Divas bull riding competition as I ponder how many times I have to bash my head against my wall to black out and not see this. Eve does well, Kelly Kelly just comes out and causes every 13 year old watching to hit puberty, and the Bellas continue to be boring.
-Finally, The Miz Show interrupts and proclaims this as stupid and pointless. Show gets talked into trying the bull and gets embarrassed of course. Ty Murray is a nerd. Jewel books them against the Miracle Jobber Connection of MVP and Mark Henry for the titles.
Unified Tag Titles Miz Show vs. MVP & Mark Henry Bryan Danielson is backstage watching his "mentor" compete. Henry has his shoulder taped up after getting chucked through the ring barrier last night. MVP controls Miz with punchy-kicky so he tags out to Show, who fares no better. Finally, Show has enough and hits a spear before trapping MVP in the heel corner. MVP gets worked over before finally flooring Miz and getting the hot tag to Mizark.
Henry avalanches Show in the corner but he reinjures the shoulder. He hits Miz with the World's Strongest Slam but Show is the legal man and he hits the KO Punch to keep the titles.
Winners and STILL Champions: The Miz Show
-Another formulaic match in a show full of them **.
-YOUR next Hall of Fame inductee is...Wendi Richter. An unexciting choice but she was part of the Rock N Wrestling Connection, which guarantees her a slot. They leave out the part about Fabulous Moolah (under a mask) shooting on her and taking the women's title when Wendi wouldn't sign an unfair contract that McMahon shoved in her face 5 minutes before the match. The contract basically screwed Richter out a shitload of money...that Vinnie Mac is a classy guy.
She was definitely "80s hot"
-Vince McMahon invites Bret Hart back next week to have a proper sendoff.
-Next week's hosts are Cheech and Chong...yeah, way to stick with that TV-PG rating, guys.
John Cena vs. Batista You're nuts if you think you're getting this match tonight. Batista plays mindgames and keeps hiding in the ropes before Big Dave bootkicks him in the balls for the DQ.
Winner by DQ: John Cena
-DUD of course, but it's an angle anyways.
-Post-match, Batista beats the hell out of him all over the arena and, when Cena isn't smart enough to stay down, he uses a steel chair. There's tough and then there's just stupid, John.
Final Word A rather bland episode tonight, but that's expected the night after a PPV and really it was a very storyline-heavy show. Legacy's bit is still rolling along, we got the next chapter in Taker-HBK, and the MITB stuff has started. I can appreciate it for what it is, but you could have skipped the show and missed nothing.
