Mike Shannon's TNA Impact Review (Feb. 25, 2010) Written by Mike Shannon on 02/27/10
TNA Impact! (February 25, 2010)
But first, it's time for the phenomenon that's sweeping the internet wrestling community...the segment that has become a hits-producing juggernaut, yes it's time to...
ASK MIKE ANYTHING!!!
Questions were MUCH better this week, so I'm going to put the TNA questions in the TNA article and the WWE ones in the Raw column...
Q: I don't understand why TNA is burying Daniels, Joe, and Wolfe. Having Daniels do absolutely nothing and Joe jobbing to Orlando Jordan is just stupid and when's the last time Wolfe won a match? Would you care to explain why TNA is burying 3 extremely talented wrestlers?
Also, Go Sharks
-Robbie
A: I respect the Sharks (money team on NHL10) but they are chokers until they make a deep playoff run. I'm not sure why Daniels is being buried and the only reason I'm hearing from my sources (yes, I do have them) is that management doesn't have anything for him at this point, but he's too talented to let go.
I fully agree Joe's jobbing to Jordan (who is nothing more than a midcard talent at best) is stupid, but I guess this kidnapping thing is supposed to be interesting. Wolfe is kinda stuck in the midcard, but right now they are focusing on The Pope, so I guess one step at a time, right?
Q: What do you tell those annoying people that keep saying that wrestling is fake and there is no use in watching it?
-Jesus, Los Angeles
A: My response to something like that would be that basically everything on TV is fake. For example, Kiefer Sutherland isn't really Jack Bauer, he's only playing a character. When he fights, the fights are predetermined and the script says if he wins or loses. The only difference is that stuntmen perform his dangerous spots while wrestlers (minus Sting at that atrocious WCW PPV) perform their own stuff.
I'm also careful to point out that wrestling is not "fake", it's predetermined, and there is a BIG difference. Anyone who knows a wrestler or knows enough about it is fully aware that injuries are very real and very serious. The majority of wrestlers are great athletes and really bad actors.
-Good questions this week and I have more for Raw this week but you can still send YOURS in at dlman91@hotmail.com.
ON WITH THE SHOW!!
-TAPED! from Orlando, FL.
-Backstage, Abyss FEELS THE POWER OF HULKAMANIA, BROTHER!
-Styles and Flair hit the ring and AJ mocks the Pope's attempt at his title. Flair grabs the mic and goes NUTS on Hogan for giving Abyss his Hall of Fame ring. Abyss actually comes out to Hogan's old WCW theme, something that probably only 12 people in audience caught...but I thought it was funny.
Flair continues going ballistic and demands Abyss give the ring to Styles. Hogan joins us and has a face-off with Flair and the heels head for the hills. Flair promises AJ will have that ring by the end of the night.
No-DQ Tables Match Nasty Boys vs. Team 3D Rumor has it the Dudleys want out of his feud as soon as possible and I can't blame them. Big brawl starts us off and Knobbs tastes the ring steps while Sags works over D-Von. They job around as Knobs is GASSED already and Bubba hits the Flip Flop N Fly.
Wassup Drop hits on Sags and Bubba wants some tables. Team 3D take too long setting up the table and the Nasties floor both of them. Bubba saves his partner from a trip through the table, but a Jimmy Hart distraction causes Bubba to get tossed off the top. Jessie Neal runs in and gets rid of Jimmy Hart, tossing D-Von the motorcycle helmet, and he bops Sags with it. One 3D later and that's all she wrote.
Winners: Team 3D
-Slow and sloppy, but the Nasty Boys combined are 100 years old, so that's expected. * Notice how they didn't have to job though and only got put through a table.
Unreal glasses
-Backstage, Foley bitches about being sent away last weekend but Bischoff counters that he paid good money for the suit and Mick isn't even wearing it.
ODB vs. Daffney ODB's boobs are like a sideshow almost, they are too inflated and fake to be attractive but you want to see them because they are just...interesting. Kinda like Dog the Bounty Hunter's wife...
This should be your desktop
ODB hammers away in the corner while Tara does an All-American Wrestling style interview in a pop-up screen. Daffney counters a charge and works the leg, but goes a bit overboard by wrapping it around the post and beating it with a broom.
Winner by DQ: ODB
-Herein lies the logic of wrestling. Daffney has lost 2 matches in a row by going nuts with illegal weapons, so what happens? She gets a title shot of course. *
-Backstage, Matt Morgan and Hernandez say there are no problems with them at all...no siree.
-Meanwhile, Waltman and Hall go through the garbage...maybe they are looking for their careers?
-Beer Money hits the ring to bitch about their treatment from Uncle Eric. Hernandez walks out and announces he will ask to face Beer Money at Destination X for the titles.
-By the way, since Team USA is DOMINATING the Team Finland doormats...I want Canada. USA beat them once and I KNOW they can beat them again, only this time they will be celebrating their gold medals on Canadian ice...with good American beer.
-Backstage, Eric Young and Kevin Nash want Hall and Waltman in the ring.
-Meanwhile in Uncle Eric's office, Bischoff wants to give Jarrett an "opportunity he deserves." Riiiiiiiight.
-After a break, Jarrett joins Eric in the ring (with his entrance music back) and Bischoff says he did the right thing. However, Eric doesn't like the right thing and orders Jeff to literally flip burgers the rest of the night. He's gotta wear his hairnet too, which is actually a REALLY funny visual.
-Meanwhile, Matt Morgan is pissed Hernandez gave Beer Money a title shot because he wanted to start with the jobbers first.
Brian Kendrick vs. Kazarian Winner gets a shot at the X-Division title. Kendrick works the arm but Kaz quickly hits a springboard legdrop and a Jeff Hardy dropkick in the corner. Kendrick comes back with an enzuigiri and a neckbreaker for two. Kaz catches Kendrick taking his time getting to the top and brings him down with the Flux Capacitor (exploder suplex) for the win.
Winner: Kaz
-TNA cared about this match so much that they showed Samoa Joe getting kidnapped again. ** with additional points for the finisher.
-Backstage, Abyss quotes Spiderman and dares anyone to take his ring.
-Still backstage, Mr. Anderson cuts a pretty funny promo.
TNA Global Championship Rob Terry vs. Mr. Anderson Kurt Angle takes advantage of Anderson's drawn out entrance to KO him with a steel chair. Rob Terry simply carries him to the ring, hits a running powerslam and wins the match.
Winner and STILL Champion: Rob Terry
-DUD of course, but it was an angle for Angle (get it?) to get his dogtag back.
-Meanwhile, Jeff Jarrett is flipping burgers.
-During the break, the Band beats up Young and Nash and Waltman does a shitty job of spray-painting "4 Life" on Young's back. My wife points out those DX crotch chops, which I'd be careful with because Vinnie Mac has sued for MUCH less.
-Mick Foley shows off his new suit to Uncle Eric but he has gotten mustard on it so Bischoff sends him off to etiquette school.
Desmond Wolfe vs. Abyss Wolfe works the arm and hammers away in the corner before addding an elbow. Abyss catches him trying the elbow again and tries a chokeslam but Wolfe takes him down. Desmond gets a little too eager running the ropes and runs right into the Black Hole Slam.
Winner: Abyss
-Nothing match really, *. Wolfe needs to be moved away from job duty NOW if they want him to be anything.
-Post-match, AJ and Flair attack to no avail, but Wolfe returns with a steel chair. Abyss Hulks up, but Flair goes low and the beatdown commences. They handcuff Abyss to the ropes but Hogan makes the save and does well until Flair chopblocks him and the heels beat him down as well. Hogan blades off a belt shot and Abyss uses the POWER OF HULKAMANIA to break the handcuffs and clear the ring.
-After a break, Hogan announces he will return to the ring and be Abyss's tag partner against Ric Flair (also in his return match) and AJ Styles on March 8. Well, go big or go home on Monday nights...
Final Word Not a good night wrestling-wise, but they are basically just staying above water until they go live on March 8. Basically, you just have to make sure you keep your core audience because their only concern should be taking viewers from Raw on Monday nights. Can't recommend this episode but, like I said, there's a reason behind it.
