It's Time to Ask the People

This post is kind of inspired by a message that I just read from Youtapped who gave told me his idea to shape the forum up. Although we're already doing that, I admire that he spoke to the one guy on the site that he hates the guts of.

I am assuming that you guys want the forum to be popular, right? Us lovely staff members have been discussing this for months, and have come up with ideas such as T-Shirts, The current King of the Ring Tournament and the prize for the winner of the Pick 'Ems. Unfortunately we haven't drawn any members since. So I'm asking you what you want to see from the forum, and how you think that we can gain some usership (new word made by me).

I don't own the forum but I am very interested in what we all want out of this place. I'll do my best to revive this place to all of its glory because I believe that it's worth it. This place is full of intelligent, dedicated members and has been since I got here, which can't be said for allot of other forums. So do give me some feedback. What would you like to see, and how would you recommend we get some "usership"?

For the record, I dont hate your guts MD. I dont hold grudges. We had our disagreements and have sparred it out. You've even grown on me. Anyway, to the subject at hand, From what I can tell, there appears to be a lot of guests that come in here and read thru the posts/ threads without saying anything. They must be tempted to post something if they are reading a thread ( at least I am). I think members only should be allowed to view these threads. I think all guests should be directed to a page to sign up for membership. Right now, if I log out, I can still view the threads and a little black box floats around asking if I want to sign up or log in. But that's it. Really the only thing I cant do while Im logged out is post. I hope Im making sense here. Kinda hard to explain. If you guys are following this, log out and see if you can view the threads in the forum. Also, there really isnt anything that you guys dont do that I am wanting you guys to do. I think the staff do a good job. I just want more participation from people. I agree with the above post that we just need to get our name out there more.

Any sort of advertisement is brilliant. If you could set us up, I will be your best friend forever.

I hate forums that require registration before you can read threads. My first reaction is to hit the back button - why should I sign up just to even find out if the site's worth the effort? It also screams elitism.

Discussion is the primary selling point of any successful forum, so that's what should be proudly displayed front and center at all times.

When you CONSISTENTLY have 83 guests and 3 users inside a forum at any one period of time, there is a problem that needs to be fixed. It doesnt scream elitism to me. It says, there is something inside here that you want to read . . . . take five fucking seconds to become a member of our forum. What's so hard about signing up?

People (such as myself) do not want to sign up to loads of different websites. Particularly if they haven't even seen the website they're signing up to, if this website just took me straight into a sign-up page when I first visited I wouldn't have joined, however after looking at the forum and viewing all the discussions I wanted to join so I did. I understand what you're saying but not even allowing guests to view the forum and being told if they want to view it they have to sign up would detract more people than it would attract.

Maybe, set it up to where guests have a trial time then after x amount of time, they have to sign up or see you later. I dont know. Let me ask you guys this . . . . how did this forum attract you guys? What brought you to this forum? For me, I wanted to see wrestling spoilers so I went to pwmania.com and I saw the forums on there.

I know MD outside of the forum, and was looking at the forum for a couple days after he showed me, I signed up as couple of days after he showed me the forum, so it was more of word of mouth about the forum more than anything else.

I like what you guys have done with the site since the last time I 'popped in'. When I 'left' the site had been changed to something that I personally thought was an eyesore. Although I prefer the classic PWM style; (comma key is broke sorry) - this is a massive improvement. I would log on after days a few weeks ago and there would be something like 37 new messages :s but months ago i remember coming on after a few hours and it would be 253 new posts! I'm glad it seems to be going back towards that way (from what I can tell at least) because i logged in today after a few days of not using it and there was something like 150 new messages! So activity is improving.

Just thought i'd give you guys some credit for the change! See ya

Yeah. I think the staff is working real hard to put this place in the right direction. Kudos to all of them. I know it's been some hard work and it makes me want to do more as well. Yalls hard work is really starting to show too. It's probably just going to take some time but persistance will pay off. Is there anyway to link the forum to other wrestling websites similar to pwmania or is that some kind of deal that you can only link to them? I dont want to rock the boat with pwmania.com because I find them to have an excellent website but if this forum could link to other similar websites I would think that could help. Also, good job Gibbs .... at least we got that out of this discussion.

One idea I have for some threads would be to have some polls each month such as best match of the month, wrestler of the month, heel of the month, face of the month, and maybe some other catagories. It would culminate at the end of the year with ringside mayhem's annual version of the slammies ( probably name it something else). I could start it up if you guys are interested or find this a good idea. So, is this cheesey or do you like the idea?

RingsideMayhem.com is exclusive to PWMania.com. Despite the name change from PWMForums to RSM, it's still owned and operated by the PWMania Network. It wouldn't be in our best interests to have the forum associating with PWMania's competitors.
